Timber Frame Living in the White Mountains

The White Mountains in New Hampshire are home to some of the most beautiful residential designs in New England. This area of the state is known for its outdoorsy community. Therefore, houses dot the valleys and slopes of the mountains to be close to all the adventures the Whites have offer, such as skiing, hiking, mountain biking, rock climbing, and more.

Timber Frames Reflect Nature.

A popular style of architecture in this region, and one of my personal favorites, is the timber frame. Timber frame structures are not only a beautiful and sustainable way to shelter ourselves from the elements, but they are also create spaces with warmth and strength, reminding us of similar characteristics found in the natural world. They also a joy to photograph!

The Exterior of the Home:

This home is a combination of a timber frame structure from TimberPeg and conventional building, all created by a talented general contracting company, Lawton Co. The simple forms and warm wood finishes for the exterior help tie into the surrounding mountain landscape.

The Interior of the Home:

When entering the home, you are greeted with Cannon Mountain as the main backdrop framed by a two-story space full of windows. You feel immersed in the mountain views, while still feeling cozy and at home. The open space is complemented with beautiful interior design by Abbey Flores Design. Each area within the great room has it’s own purpose, yet they all tie together seamlessly.

 The Kitchen:

The mix of gray wood and painted cabinets give this kitchen a modern feel, with a touch of rustic from the exposed timer frame and tongue & groove ceiling. The open concept maintains the mountain views while entertaining, cooking, and gathering around the large island.

Throughout The Home:

Each room in the home has its own style and personality thanks to Abbey. One of my favorites to photograph was the girl’s bunk room. The whimsical tree wallpaper and fun colors make for the perfect slumber party setting. It’s hard to walk into this space and not smile!

Some of the other spaces within the home include a master bedroom suite, guest rooms, and a basement with a bar and living room. Unique details such as the corner windows and sliding barn doors, along with the modern furniture and finishes, give this home a special touch.
